On Sunday, five of my children and I had lunch at the restaurant where another one works. The food was wonderful and the company was even better.
The rest of the week was just school, appointments and daily chores.
Honestly, I don't mind the slow days. After such a full and busy summer, these quieter days feel like a welcome change.
Back in the olden days of mommy blogging, there was a "daybook" style format that I loved to read. It gave little glimpses into the writer's life. Here's mine.
What I'm seeing
Honey, my little dog, is busy working on a stuffed animal, determined to chew every leg off. This is her second one. She accomplished all four legs on the other.
What I'm pondering
Matthew 6:22-23 "The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!"
The "eye" being my focus. I want to study this and get it deep in my heart as a reminder to keep my focus on Him.
What I'm thankful for
The families that my "hitched" children have joined. They are all such wonderful people and it will be a joy to share grandchildren with them. I know not everyone can say that, and it's a gift I don't take lightly.
What I'm cooking
This week saw a huge pot of jambalaya (how do you make a small pot?), steak, macaroni and cheese (homemade) and chicken strips (not homemade)
I found a recipe for bacon wrapped meatballs that I'm looking forward to trying soon.
What I'm looking forward to
A small shift in the weather that is forecast for this week. Cooler mornings, coffee on the porch, simple things that will feel amazing.
What I'm praying for
A fresh perspective in areas where I might be tempted to think negatively. That what the enemy meant for harm, God will use for good.
What I'm hearing
The hum of the neighborhood lawnmowers all going at once. Summer insects, wind chimes, and the steady sound of my fan that's been running nonstop for months.
Today my daughter will be calling bingo at a local assisted living home. I'm so proud that she wants to give her time in such a way. It reminds me that even the simplest moments, shifts in the weather, good food, neighbors mowing the grass, are all gifts from God and I don't take a single bit of it for granted.
