The week felt slow and hot. Not August hot, but still hot enough to remind me of what's coming.
After (finally) getting a new debit card, I filled the house with groceries and took measures so that I don't get stranded like that again. Google wallet(see kids how modern mama is?) is now in play, and a credit card on the way, I feel marginally more secure.
Lauren worked VBS this year with a friend, so the evenings were all about carting them back and forth each evening. And three nights in a row, at the exact time I was supposed to leave to pick them up? The sky opened. I love a good summer storm, but not when I'm driving in it.
I have a working lawnmower now, which is great, except for the part where we have to actually cut the grass. Summer is here, the good, the bad, the sweaty.
It's peak watermelon season here in Mississippi, with roadside watermelon trucks every couple of miles. I've bought four so far and had to toss two. After eating my way through nine pregnancies worth of watermelon cravings, I think of myself as quite the connoisseur. Can't be mushy. That's the deal breaker.
On Monday, I made Mississippi pot roast in the crockpot. It magically turned into three meals with leftovers to freeze. I'm still learning how to cook for a small table after years of cooking for a small army.
Chocolate chip cookies. After chasing the perfect recipe for over 20 years... I still haven't found it. I want FLAT chocolate chip cookies. Not these puffy pillow things that plague me. I will keep trying.
Personally, it's been a rough week. A little down in the dumps. No major reason for it, just one of those heavy heart kind of weeks. I've felt discouraged. Low. But I know this isn't my baseline. I've got enough years behind me(a big perk of aging) to know it passes. So I keep on keeping on-leaning heavy into God and find my comfort there.
