From where I sit, the world is very, very wet and very, very green. And when the wet takes a break, it gets very, very hot. So time is spent cutting the grass between storms and staying in during the hottest part of the day. There's a heat advisory today(very, very sad)
This week, I've taken up watercolor in a humble attempt to become, at last, an accomplished woman (name that movie.) Armed with my Walmart palette and pad, I follow along with YouTube experts, creating disaster after disaster. But it's fun. One thing to be said about painting is that you have to be "in the zone," my mind doesn't tend to wander. It requires concentration which I think we could all use. Next up in my quest will be calligraphy and working on my cursive.
Earlier this week, my two teens and I were sitting on the porch, looking up local events. I saw that we have "Brookstock," coming up, a gathering with a few local bands. I mentioned it and my son says "Oh like Woodstock?"
Feeling proud that he even knew about Woodstock, I said "Yeah, like that, but for Brookhaven."
Then he said, "You know Pantera played at Woodstock? It was huge."
I just sat with that. Didn't bother to correct him.
After not eating at restaurants for what seems like months, I went out twice this week. And I was reminded of why I've been eating at home.
Restaurant #1 My daughter and I drove to a nearby city to get raw milk for the week and decide to try this place, based on reviews. The food was good but the sensory overload had me ready to bolt before it ever got to the table. One big open room, bright lights, loud music, and an AC vent blasting freezing cold air right over our table. Napkins were flying. 6/10 for good food and good company(my daughter) points off for the indoor tornado, decibels to match.
Restaurant #2 is the newest in a string of Mexican restaurants around here. We're surrounded by them, as well as a ton of fried chicken, two shady Chinese buffets and a few burger joints. But zero Vietnamese, Indian or steakhouse restaurants. Oh, and the necessary Cracker Barrel. The upside is that we stay home due to lack of options. Anyway, my son and I were alone and decided to go. To our surprise, fajitas for two came out in five minutes. From order to bill, 30 minutes. It felt awkward to leave so soon and I thought maybe we should linger over our water awhile. The decor was somewhat confusing. A mix of Chinese, middle eastern and colorful murals of animals all over. I'm not mad at it, just confused. Also, the portion sizes were true American portions. Fajitas for two could've easily fed five. We brought it all home for lunch the next day. It tasted exactly like fajitas at a Mexican restaurant should so, 7/10 for speed, consistency and good company. Points off for looking like a Temu warehouse.
