Week In Review 7/11/25

The 4th of July was the quietest that I can remember. I heard maybe 10 seconds of fireworks, and that was it. The next day, on the 5th, our community had a fireworks show with food trucks at the Civic Center. The kids went with friends and then came back here to hang out. We had bbq and then everyone left for a few days.

I was here alone from Sunday to Wednesday and decided to challenge myself to stay put. No errands, no outings, not even starting the car. I did it. I used that time to tackle a few big jobs around the house. Cobwebs have been dealt with. It is a strange feeling to not see anyone at all for three days. Not one person. I'm blessed in the way that I don't seem to experience loneliness like most people do. Of course, three days is nothing and I knew it was temporary.

I watched Gladiator (the original one.) I'd seen it before, but only in bits and in a distracted way. That's how I watch most movies. But this time I went from beginning to end, only fast forwarding through the gory fight scenes. That sent me down a rabbit hole that I've yet to emerge from. The Roman Empire, which led to a full deep dive of Christianity during that time. That led to Iliad and the Trojan war, the dark ages and what made them dark, the Renaissance... and now I'm with Alexander. Totally out of order but so fascinating. Somewhere along the way, I decided that I actually was, in fact, born at the right time. I can't romanticize any of what I've read.

That was actually the week. Not much to report. I was either on a very tall ladder catching cobwebs or time traveling, buried in books.

It's a good thing though, this next week looks to be a busy one, with somewhere to go everyday.
