Who I am in Christ

Is a whole lot different than who I am without Him. Shocking even. But I guess rebirth is like that.

Who you are before being born again is really just who you think you are. A figment of your own imagination, be it a grand one or a disappointing one. A constant grasp for meaning. For identity. For something to fill the emptiness that we are all, everyone of us, born with.

God comes in with a holy flashlight, shining into the corners of your soul, then He brings out the highlighter.

"Here's where you got it wrong."

"Over there, that's what you thought you were good at."

"You see this little dark corner? That's called justifying sin."

And on and on, until your soul is left bare and naked, quiet and humbled before your Creator.

"Search me, O God and know my heart;

Try me, and know my anxieties;

And see if there is any wicked way in me,

And lead me in the way everlasting." -Psalm 139:23-24

Then comes the cross. And the realization that He, HE, paid for you. Jesus. I was bought for a price. It's a debt I cannot repay.

"For you were bought at a price;

therefore glorify God in your body

and in your spirit, which are God's." -1 Corinthians 6:20

And so I said, "this is me Lord.

Small. Silly.

Crooked path walker.

Do what you will.

Change me.

Make me whole.

Transform.

Sweep the corners.

Turn on the lights.

Straighten the path.

Who am I now? I am Redeemed. Forgiven. Filled with the Holy Spirit of God. A seeker of truth.

A child of God.
